Dr. Billinghurst is an accomplished Orthopedic Spine Surgeon specializing in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). He utilizes new and innovative techniques that lessen postoperative pain and blood loss. His methods make outpatient surgery, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times possible.
Dr. Billinghurst takes pride in his ability to help his patients regain function and mobility. To this end, he performs motion preservation surgery whenever possible. These operations often result in better long-term recovery than fusions.

Dr. Billinghurst’s Background
A New Jersey native, Dr. Billinghurst attended Rutgers University, where he graduated with magna cum laude honors before earning his medical degree from Cornell Medical College.
His time at Cornell brought afforded him the opportunity to participate in a variety of research projects at The Hospital for Special Surgery, as well as the Erasmus University Medical Center’s biomechanics laboratory in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
After medical school, Dr. Billinghurst went on to The University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey to complete his orthopedic surgery residency. With that under his belt, he went on to finish his fellowship in spine surgery at the San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders. During his time at the prestigious Center, he gained extensive experience while treating spinal deformities in adults, as well as children.
Dr. Billinghurst’s Accomplishments
Dr. Billinghurst boasts memberships with an impressive number of groups and societies, such as the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society, and the Alpha Phi Omega national service organization.
In addition to his medical skills, he’s a highly sought-after public speaker. Dr. Billinghurst has been invited to speak at numerous meetings all across the country. He has taught at surgeon educational programs and provides consulting for industry-leading spinal surgical devices and implements.
